So this was on the news and my parents were livid about it. Not about the fact that these soldiers are clearly disrespecting people and being incredibly idiotic about it, but they were mad about the fact that they had it in the news. They didn’t think it should be on the news because it makes them look bad. They said it will cause people to lose faith in the military. They were angry because it didn’t show them as being the heroes my parents have deluded themselves into thinking.

When I said I was glad it was on the news, the only response I got was, “you’re just a liberal, you don’t get it.”

Yes, I think it’s great this was on the news. I think it’s great that people’s blind hero worship of the military gets at least cracked by things like this. In an ideal world, that wouldn’t happen but not because it wasn’t on the news, but because people wouldn’t be complete assholes to each other.

When I heard this on the news, all I could think of, is that this is probably the LEAST of what is on the news…. oh, I’m sorry, have we already forgotten about Guantanamo bay??
